What is

What to expect from our program:

  • This is a free consultation appointment that can be completed in person or on the phone to assess your needs and suitability for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), as well as discuss the requirements of our program. At this time, we will also provide an educational overview of MAT and address any questions you may have.

  • If our program is the right fit, you will be scheduled for a physician assessment to obtain final approval to participate.

  • While participating in the program, individual coaching sessions are offered as often as required by the physician or as requested by the client. Here, the client can discuss any treatment needs or issues regarding pharmaceutical care.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between the different medications used in MAT at SOAR?

Suboxone, Subutex, and Sublocade each contain the same active ingredient, buprenorphine, which is a partial opiate indicated for the treatment of opioid dependency.

Suboxone, whether in pill or film form, also contains naloxone to prevent people from abusing it. Subutex contains buprenorphine alone.

Sublocade is the injectable formulation of Subutex. Because it is long acting and physician-administered, it can be beneficial in helping clients with compliance, as well as eventual dosage tapering.

How long should I stay on Suboxone/Subutex?

This is an individual decision made between you, the physician, and your therapist. We will work with you to reach your goals of maintenance or total sobriety.

Do you provide outpatient or inpatient services?

We can provide assessments for inpatient treatment; and we provide counseling and office-based medication assisted treatment for opiate and alcohol use disorders.

Do you accept insurance for MAT?

The prescribed medication associated with treatment (Suboxone, Subutex, Sublocade) is a private pay service only. For counseling, however, we accept Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Alabama insurance.

Does Suboxone/Subutex help with pain?

Buprenorphine, the active ingredient in Suboxone is a partial opiate agonist analgesic. It is very good with pain but is only indicated for opioid dependency. It can, however, be prescribed for pain off label upon the Physician’s discretion.

Why do I need counseling as well as medication?

Here at SOAR Counseling and Recovery, you will receive counseling and accountability along with medical assistance. Changing behaviors is difficult. For long lasting recovery and change, clients need counseling AND medical assistance.

What if I have surgery or have pain that requires other pain medication?

Our physician works with other doctors to help manage your pain if you have an accident or surgery. There are many ways to address pain other than taking opiates.

I’m afraid that Medication-Assisted Treatment could interfere with my rights of gun ownership. Is this possible?

Your health history is private. Being on Suboxone/Subutex alone will not affect your ability to own guns.
